Part of the "Remnants of Heart After God" Series
Y'all, I was randomly thinking about that New Orleans guy who went viral singing Kevin Gates' song - you know the one - "I was thinking with my flesh... my flesh dumb." I couldn't help but laugh at how Kevin Gates held himself (or his counterpart) accountable like that.
But then it got me thinking about how dumb my own fleshly desires are and how foolish they've made me look. You know the cycle:
- The fleshly desire hits
- The guilt follows
- You start questioning and rationalizing everything about your Christ walk
- You finally resist and rebuke the devil
- Then you question God - "Did I set myself back? Am I missing blessings because of my disobedience?"
- And suddenly you want to go back to the fleshly desire because dealing with all this feels like too much
If you've ever encountered this mind cycle, I want to share how to break it. It's two steps.
Step 1: Know Your Authority
You have the power and authority to denounce and rebuke the enemy through Jesus Christ. This isn't a suggestion - it's your spiritual inheritance.
Step 2: Practice the Mind of Christ
Obtaining it is simpler than you think. Let's dive into 1 Corinthians 2:
You Already Have the Mind of Christ (verse 16)
Through your renewed mind (Romans 12:1-2), you possess spiritual wisdom that most people are searching for.
Take Every Thought Captive
Literally, actively think about what you're thinking about. Our society conditions us to have distracted, passive minds, but you need to take a stance.
Ask yourself:
- Is this me thinking this?
- Does this bring me into alignment with my walk with God?
- Is this positive and life-giving?
What IS the Mind of Christ?
It's spiritual wisdom that God gave us through the Holy Spirit (verse 12). Every day we seek answers and turn to human knowledge, but I urge you to use your Sacred Space Journal to lead you into quiet stillness.
Here's my practice: "I have the mind of Christ and I hear from the Lord concerning all things. Holy Spirit..."
Let the Lord speak to you, then end with: "Heavenly Father, thank you for freely giving us your wisdom in [specific situation]. Give me the courage to stand firm, and I put on the full armor of God. May you be glorified. In Jesus' name, Amen."
(This final prayer is the vital part - don't skip it.)
Stay encouraged, love. This walk is definitely worth it.
